FART IN PLACE

Tom Wolfe writes in From Bauhaus to Our House a certain type of public art is increasingly found outside newer office buildings in large U.S. cities which he termed an archetype that is all too real: "Turd On The Plaza" known to some as "plop art". Following, our moniker is FartInPlace (GOOGLE knows what's up).

WARNING BESANÇON:

"The Urban Turban" intends to FartInPlace in your town Sistah! Our researcher could not locate a counterpart FartInPlace in Besançon which means you win by default.

HOT SEAT- Mr. (Exit) Strategy: No more Huja to kick around . . . that's what Charlottesvillians thought but Oh Contraire! The "Urban Turban" is obviously a glutton for punishment. He's back on the scene with a vengeance, attempting to FartInPlace publicly, directly in front of City Hall. Statues: The Ties That Bind. Aptly titled as the fair City of Charlottesville is getting a real dose of S & M with this one. HujaVision - Mr. Huja's academic background in the areas of urban planning, environmental planning, and historical preservation is impressive and his endeavors as a civil servant in those areas span three decades. There were many controversies during that time but overall Mr. Huja's transformational visions were positive for The City.

Mr. Huja states in the above-linked HOT SEAT article "conclusions without relevant, informed knowledge" cause him to rant and self-admittedly rues "not having devoted enough time to art." We at Charlottesville-Besançon.com agree! Our research reveals "The Urban Turban" has no education or experience as an artist, not even as a dabbler and conclude he lacks the relevant, informed knowledge needed to qualify as the creator of an art project of this significance. "Art," Huja says, "is a different animal . . . it's okay to 'single source' it." We emphatically disagree.

First, this symbolic project is public art. Public art came into being from diverse strands of artmaking - notably installation art, "project-based art," activist art, and Social Sculpture (Joseph Beuys). Vito Acconci says, "There is no independant form to public art. It is a branch within architecture." Second, even if it were an individual matter "The Urban Turban" is not the individual to do the job. What arrogance is this? Following Huja's logic any well-qualified artist could unilaterally step in and procure funds to implement an urban planning project. Such an "individual" would be laughed out of City Hall.

Speaking of City Hall, those buggers have been stalling the public hearing on this matter since February 5th of this year. The public hearing has not yet been scheduled on the May City Council calendar. City Council may be contacted at council@charlottesville.org.

BREAKING NEWS . . . HUJA ~ SIKH'S REVENGE

Friday the 13th: Yesterday morning Democrat Satyendra Huja announced his bid for a seat on Charlottesville City Council. Looks like Huja may be back to kick around! Guaranteed, it will be another horror show. Guess Huja will vote his own fart in place if elected.
